Shirebrook Academy prepares to spread the word as it celebrates bumper intake
A Shirebrook school says its pupil figures are the highest that it has ever known – as it prepares to open its doors to even more prospective new students.
Shirebrook Academy, in Common Lane, now has 803 pupils on its books, having just seen a bumper Year Seven intake of 180 11-year-olds joining the school this term.
Later this month its staff and pupils will be showing parents and Year Five and Six pupils around its classrooms during an open evening, while the school’s assistant principal, Steve Roberts, will be visiting local schools to talk about the Academy.
Pupils and parents will be able to see the facilities during the open day, which takes place on Thursday, September 22 at 5.30pm, while they will also be able to enjoy activities and demonstrations organised by staff from each curriculum area.
Head teacher Mark Cottingham said: “We were supposed to have 170 in the year, bu this year we’re over-subscribed, so its really nice that so many young people and families trust us with their education.”
The school is expecting around 500 people to attend the open evening, which is free and ends at 7pm.
