SATURDAY NON-LEAGUE | Vase run continues for Eastwood Community
Eastwood Community are the lowest ranked side left in the Buildbase Vase after their remarkable run in the competition continued with a 2-0 win at Leicester Nirvana on Saturday.
A Chay Betteridge penalty and a Patrick Webb strike in the opening eleven minutes sealed the victory for the Abacus Lighting Central Midlands League side at their hosts who are two divisions higher in the football pyramid in the East Midlands Counties League.
They are the only Step 7 team still in the competition and are our area's only representative as Pinxton and AFC Mansfield bowed out at the Second Round stage.
Pinxton were seconds away from joining their league rivals in the hat for Monday's draw as Jay Cooper put them 4-3 up at ChromaSport & Trophies United Counties League Premier Division side Desborough Town in stoppage time.
But, the Step 5 home team grabbed a dramatic equaliser before going on to win 7-4 in extra time.
AFC Mansfield, meanwhile, were playing their first match in the competition this season and will be disappointed to have been knocked out with a 2-0 loss at Total Motion Midland League Division One side Hinckley.
Elsewhere, Alfreton Town are down to sixteenth in Vanarama National League North after they were edged out 3-2 at home by York City, Cieron Keane and Brendon Daniels netting for the Reds.
They were reduced to ten men on 70 minutes when Tom Platt was sent off and Jon Parkin converted a decisive penalty for the visitors but Alfreton had a chance to take a point but saw a spot-kick saved.
In Toolstation NCEL Premier Division, bottom side Clipstone gave leaders Handsworth Parramore a scare but the Worksop Van Hire Stadium outfit could not get their first points of the season as they were beaten 3-2.
Tim Gregory and Gareth Curtis twice had the home side ahead but Handsworth fought back and took the points with a winner ten minutes from time.
At Step 6, Teversal's lead at the top of the East Midlands Counties League has grown to three points after a Khyle Sargeant brace and a Dave Cockerill strike saw them come from behind to win 3-1 at Radcliffe Olympic.
Selston drop to third following a 1-1 draw at home to Dunkirk, Lee Sutton's goal cancelled out in stoppage time by the visitors.
In NCEL Division One, Ollerton Town took the bragging rights in their local derby with visitors Shirebrook Town, Sam Stretton's penalty and Ashley Shannon's goal giving them a 2-1 victory with Kieran Watson netting from the spot for the away side in injury time.
FC Bolsover, meanwhile, went down 3-1 at home to high-flying Yorkshire Amateur and their weekend was made worse when it was announced that they have been docked six points for fielding a suspended player in two games earlier in the season.
And, at Step 7, Hucknall Town are now three points clear at the top of Abacus Lighting Central Midlands League Black Dragon South Division as Devante Reittie's last gasp winner earned them a 1-0 home victory over South Normanton.
Second placed Sherwood Colliery drew 2-2 at home to Hilton Harriers and four goals were also shared in Blidworth Welfare's match with visitors Keyworth United.
Meanwhile, in the North Division, it was goalless between Clay Cross Town and Dinnington Town.
