Round 16 NPL Preview

27th July 2018

The Owzat Cricket Nottinghamshire Premier League enters into round 16 this week as July comes to a close; the table will also return to normal as Caythorpe and Attenborough play the remaining re-arranged fixture from the opening weekend on Sunday.

It is at Attenborough where we start and Cuckney are the visitors.

The home side remain in 10th place after holding out for a draw at Farnsfield and are still just 2pts ahead of Caythorpe. They could be forgiven for having one eye on Sunday’s game, but a positive result going into it would be a massive boost.

A very good weekend for Burhan Alam would see him reach 500 NPL runs, he needs 82.

Cuckney returned to winning ways after taking apart Cavaliers & Carrington; they sit 3rd just 1pts behind Cavaliers and 18pts behind the new leaders Kimberley. They’ll be looking to secure back-to-back victories here.

Tom Keast needs 12 runs for 1,500 in the NPL and Will Butler is 31 away from 5,500 league runs.

Next up we have Caythorpe who host Papplewick & Linby.

As noted the home side remain in 11th place after their loss to Kimberley, but they will view this weekend as a big chance to lift themselves out of the relegation zone - if not completely out of trouble.

Captain Andy Staszkiewicz can reach 500 runs at home with 48, Martyn Dobson needs 64 for 7,500 league runs and James Hindson could become the first ever NPL bowler to take 500 wickets if he can strike 4 times.

Papplewick’s winless run now stretches to five matches after Wollaton inflicted their third defeat in a row last time out; they slipped one spot to 7th place and another defeat here would see them dragged right into the relegation battle. A positive result though would ease any concerns and could even move them back into 6th spot.

At Station Lane Farnsfield welcome Kimberley Institute.

The home side bounced back from their loss at Plumtree to pile on the runs against Attenborough, but they had to settle for the draw which still moved them up one spot to 6th and well clear of danger. They are unbeaten in four at home and will hoping that it will be five come close of play.

Steve Musgrove is 35 runs away from 3,500 in the NPL.

Kimberley arrive on the back of four games unbeaten and will be looking for a third straight win after their last ball victory over Caythorpe; the result moved them into 1st place and they have a 17pts lead over Cavaliers & Carrington.

Dominic Wheatley is closing in on 1,000 NPL runs – he needs 44.

At The Fieldings Mansfield Hoisery Mills host Hucknall.

The home side finally notched one in the win column after a comprehensive win over Plumtree last week. That said it hasn’t changed an awful lot though as they are still bottom and 33pts adrift of safety, but another positive result here and they could gain a little more ground on the sides above them.

Kamal Manek has another chance to get the 13 runs he needs for 500 at home.

Hucknall arrive on the back of consecutive wins after they beat Radcliffe last week and moved up a place to 8th and, more importantly, 21pts clear of Caythorpe. They have an opportunity here to record three straight NPL wins for the first time, but need to be wary of the rejuvenated Millers.

Robin Maxwell was in the runs last week and just 3 more would take him to 2,000 in the NPL and Matt New is 43 away from 4,500 league runs.

At Plumtree, Cavaliers and Carrington are the visitors.

The home side will be smarting after that loss to the Millers; the defeat saw them drop one place to 5th, but they could potentially move back into 4th if they win and Wollaton slip up. They’ll be hoping that home advantage helps them return to winning ways.

As noted that loss to Cuckney meant Cavaliers had to relinquish top spot as they slipped to 2nd place. Their recent form has been inconsistent and they need to address that quickly if they are to remain in the title hunt.

Bilal Shafayat still needs 37 for 5,000 NPL runs.

The final game of the day is at Radcliffe-on –Trent where they welcome Wollaton.

Radcliffe suffered their sixth straight loss on the road after defeat to Hucknall and slipped one place to 9th as a result. They have won their last three home games though and will be looking to make that four here.

A host of players have the opportunity to bring up milestones here: Caleb Mierkalns and Dave Lucas need 3 and 4 respectively to reach 500 NPL runs at home and Rob Sutton 9 for 1,500 runs at home. Lucas also needs 1 wicket for 100 on home soil.

Wollaton come into this game on the back of three straight wins after they saw off Papplewick last week; that result moved them into 4th place as they took advantage of Plumtree’s loss. A fourth straight win and they could have the outside chance of being 2nd come close of play.

Nayyer Abbas has impressed in his debut season in the NPL, he needs 59 runs to make it 500 for the season.
