Rainworth Rocket Car is set to break records.
Young Engineers from Joseph Whitaker School in Rainworth are bidding to break a world record, by building a model car to go faster than any has before. The school set a record of 533mph two years ago, but have already broken the sound barrier with their new car in testing. Technology teacher Phil Worsley is behind the project. He said “When our Young Engineers head to University, we get lots of letters back from their tutors saying our projects have already taken them beyond what they'll learn in their first year at Uni. They learn so well because they have to get used to failure – and how to learn from that, and become resillient”
The next challenge for the school is to raise enough money to mount a formal Guinness World Record attempt, with it costing £800 just to book a representative from Guinness for the day.
