Police Urge People To Be Considerate This Halloween
Mansfield Police Inspector Nick Butler is urging those heading out to take part in the “Trick or Treat” tradition, to be respectful of those who don’t want visitors, particularly the elderly.
Tick-or-treating, where youngsters dress-up in spooky costumes, has grown in popularity over the last decade and many have expressed concern that the mischievous element is outgrowing the family element.
Inspector Butler said “Not everybody wants these constant visits, if you imagine you’re elderly and mobility is an issue getting up and down out of the chair all night long to answer the door because someone wants to say “trick or treat” after a period of time becomes quite distressing so please bare that in mind”
“I’ve got children myself and when they go out trick-or-treating it’s a case of going to friends and family – people that we know will receive us. If there are notices up in doors that say “No trick-or-treaters” then please respect that”
