Packed programme of youth activities announced for summer fun

There is plenty to keep teenagers entertained in the county this summer with events being organised by Nottinghamshire County Council and young people themselves.

There are activities which are taking place in each district offering something for everyone.

Nottinghamshire County Council’s youth service has worked with young people to develop the programme of activities and will be attending many of the events with information stands to promote the service to visitors.

Councillor Tracey Taylor, Vice-Chairman of the Children and Young People’s Committee, at Nottinghamshire County Council, said: “We are rightly proud of our young people and are pleased to be announcing this programme of events this summer. There is a lot of variety and we hope these events will once again attract lots of young people to take part and try something new or enjoy an existing hobby or pastime.”

Diane Johnson, a youth worker at Retford Young People’s Centre, which organises the annual Skatefest event in Retford, hopes the popular event can further build on the 200 young people who attended last year.

She said: “Skatefest is always well attended and young people are involved in its development and also take part in the management on the day, so these sorts of events are also great to help them gain new skills for the future.”
