Notts Seamer Loaned To Worcs

4th July 2018

Nottinghamshire seam bowler Luke Wood has joined Worcestershire on a month-long loan deal.

The 22-year-old left-armer started the 2018 season well, taking four wickets in the first two Specsavers County Championship games of the campaign.

But he was subsequently struck down by an ankle ligament injury that kept him out for several weeks before suffering a bout of illness on his return.

Worksop-born Wood has been gradually rebuilding his fitness since then and has been a regular feature for the Second XI team.

Director of Cricket Mick Newell believes this stint with the Pears will help him to rediscover his best form.

“Luke has been a little unlucky after a bright start to the season, so getting some games under his belt at this point in his comeback is just what we think he needs,” he said.

“Worcestershire will be getting a player who will be determined to prove himself and hopefully when he comes back to Trent Bridge, he will be pushing for a first-team place.”

The loan starts today and covers a raft of T20 Group games, plus Worcestershire’s four-day game at home to Somerset.

Meanwhile Nottinghamshire get their T20 Blast title defence underway this evening against the team they beat in last year's final, the Birmingham Bears.

It's a 6:30pm start at Trent Bridge and the OUtlaws will have England bowler Jake Ball available for the clash after he was released for the game by the ECB.
