Notts On The Way To Victory?
England duo Jake Ball and Stuart Broad plunged Worcestershire into deeper trouble with a three wicket blast as Nottinghamshire stepped up their victory bid on the final day of the Specsavers County Championship clash at Blackfinch New Road.
Notts resumed on 204-6 and added 96 off 13.5 overs to secure three batting points before declaring on 300-9 – a lead of 190.
Worcestershire were left 80 overs to survive to secure a draw but Ball and Broad reduced them to 29-3 with Brett D’Oliveira, Daryl Mitchell and Joe Clarke all falling in quick succession.
The Nottinghamshire overnight pairing of Tom Moores and Stuart Broad extended their partnership to 59 in eight overs with a succession of boundaries.
Moores pulled Josh Tongue for four to bring up the 250 but then tried to guide the next delivery to third man and was caught behind for 43.
Broad needed treatment to his face after colliding with Luke Fletcher when running a quick single but was able to continue batting.
He raced onto 38 before top edging a pull at spinner Travis Head and skying a simple catch to keeper Ben Cox.
Tongue claimed his fourth wicket of the innings when trapping Jake Ball (0) lbw but Fletcher (27 not out) followed his career best 5-27 by lifting the score to 300 before the declaration.
Ball took the new ball and had D’Oliveira caught at third slip for a first ball duck and then bowled Mitchell (3) with a delivery of full length.
Broad got in on the act as Clarke (4) was caught behind to leave Worcestershire with a mountain to climb.
