NHS Could Face ‘Meltdown’

NHS Could Face ‘Meltdown’

A senior doctor claims the NHS faces "pockets of meltdown" this winter because of a shortage of staff. The President of the Society for Acute Medicine says some hospitals could be "pushed to the brink" and care could become "unsafe".

John Dale is from the Mansfield Socialist Party and he said change is needed, “Everbody who works in the NHS as well as patients using it now can see that the service is at its limits, because of years of cuts and privatization.”

Dale added, “Staff are working at the end of their tether that’s why we need to support the juniors doctors because they’re making a stand against this.”

The claims come exactly a week after the British Medical Association called of strikes that were due to take place this month amid concerns about patient safety; however they did say further strikes in the coming months would go ahead.

The BMA said they are not backing down in the fight over a new contract and they will continue to strike unless the government negotiates a new deal.

Strikes are expected to take place at Kingsmill Hospital in October, November and December.
