NEWS IN FOCUS | The Old Library – The Beating Heart Of County Youth Arts

As News In Focus rounds up the weekly charity and community headlines, this week’s main feature under the spotlight, is the County Youth Arts service, as Craig Priest visits their base at the Old Library in Mansfield.

The group, who work with the areas young people in all areas of the arts, recently turned twenty and held two nights of celebrations on the Mansfield Palace Theatre Stage. In addition to their twenty years of service, the group also marked ten years being based in the Old Library and during this week’s program; Craig is invited along to the venue to go behind the scenes.

He was joined by Principal Arts Officer Sam Holgate-Davey and Project Assistant Anna McGrath who speak in depth about County Youth Arts, and how the project has flourished at the Old Library Venue.

Anna first started at County Youth Arts on a work experience scheme and has since moved on to become a member of staff “Working with County Youth Arts for about five years as not staff, as a young person, to then be working with these people on a very different basis – I didn’t know if relationships would change between people here, how you report with someone but they are just like a big professional family. It’s nice to know that, whether you’re a young person or a staff member, that it’s the same”

“I think it’s a bit like a treasure cove in here, you don’t know what’s behind the doors and you walk in and it’s something different.”

Also on this week’s News In Focus, Matt Freeman reveals how a Mansfield District Council housing scheme, has helped to save the NHS over one-million-pounds – and following Pancake Day, Ian Holland from Linby’s Brooke-Farm Shop, tells James Brandon more about how Linby, is the official home of the Pancake
