NEWS IN FOCUS EXTRA | Pawsome Achievement For Guide Dog Hudson

Local guide dog owner Nathan Edge says he’s “owes a lot” to his faithful companion Hudson and says winning the prestigious Eukanuba Friends for Life competition would be “exactly what he deserves”.

22 year old Nathan along with his companion Hudson will travel to NEC in Birmingham in March for Crufts, where Nathan and Hudson will find out if they’ve won this year’s competition.

Nathan was diagnosed with juvenile arthritis at the age of six with the inflammation spreading to the back of his eyes, resulting in the deterioration of his sight. The duo have been together since Nathan was 19 years old and lost his site fully just a few months later – Nathan said having Hudson in his life, saw him through the toughest time.

“It was a very, very dark time, and I struggled for a while I’m not afraid to admit that, but having him (Husdon) by my side, this fluffy animal full of character bouncing everywhere just picked me back up and made me realise – I can get through this.”

Having formed a bond with Hudson, Nathan was inspired to raise money for the Guide Dogs Charity and to date, has raised a staggering £16,000 and counting through numerous events, including walking from Mansfield Town FC to Chesterfield FC on Derby Day in 2013.

Now Hudson has helped Nathan take the next step on his journey, helping him relocate to Hereford, where the sports mad 22 year old is training at the Royal National College for the Blind in the England Football Development Squad, hoping to earn a full time contract and a place at the Paralympic games.
