News In Focus Blog | Disability Sport – Together Everyone Achieves More

T.E.A.M or Together Everyone Achieves More is one of the most common acronyms and motivational quotes out there, but I think you struggle to find one more true, especially for this week’s News In Focus.

I find it frustrating sometimes that disability sports charities don’t get as much coverage nationally, because the work they do has ph

enomenal results.

In my earlier years after leaving school I did a six month stint at West Notts College studying Sports coaching, and as part of our course we had to set up and run a disability five a side tournament at a local leisure centre.

Each side who took part in our league had players with a range of disabilities, predominantly mental health and learning disabilities – but there was never any judgement, it was a weekly time where people laughed and enjoyed being active through sport.

Listening to the stories from some of this week’s charities has once again highlighted to me what a role sport plays in inspiring people – for example the guys from CP Sport in Nottinghamshire shared heart-warming stories of people who started out just to get out the house, and ended up winning gold medals at world championships.

Inclusion is a big part of disability sport, taking part gives the participant a sense of belonging, a sense of having no restrictions and being someone with ability rather than someone with a disability.

News In Focus “Disability Sport” airs this Thursday (13###sup/sup### October) 6-7pm and more about all of the charities that feature can be found via following the below links.
