News In Focus “A Charity Christmas – Part One”
News In Focus “A Charity Christmas – Part One” Air Date: Thursday 15th December 6-7pm with Matt Freeman
As Christmas fast approaches, our weekly News In Focus program gets in the festive spirit this week with the first of two Christmas Specials.
This week’s special will take a special look at what a number of charities and community groups are doing to make a difference across the area this December.
Featuring are the likes of the Mansfield Rotary Club, whose annual sleigh pull is an ever present Christmas tradition, Jerry Green Dog Rescue, who share advice on getting a puppy for Christmas, and the Old Mansfield Library, who recently staged a unique gig to support local food-banks.
Sam Holgate-Davey from the Old Library said “we we’re able to make a really big contribution to Sherwood Forest food-bank and framework. People were really generous with what they brought and what they donated. Mansfield like anywhere in Notts or in the country, has a large number of rough sleepers, the least we can do is give them some food and some drink – it’s just what you do”
Also featuring on this week’s special, the first of two shows across the next fortnight, are the Edwinstowe Lions who have been taking Santa’s Sleigh across the area.
John Yarwood is a volunteer with the group “We’re out nearly every night, up until the 23rd I think. It’s a big commitment but it’s about enjoying it, getting the community involved with us, raising as much money as we possibly can but giving something back to the children, so they enjoy the experience with the Lions as well”
News In Focus returns this Thursday (15th December), just after the 6pm news with Matt Freeman
