Nearly 15% of motorists take photos and videos while driving
The RAC says and alarming raise in the use of mobile phones while driving is the biggest safety risk to motorists.
Its research has found that 31 percent of drivers admit to using their phones behind the wheel, compared to just eight percent two years ago.
Shockingly, 14 percent of motorists even owned up to taking photos or filming videos while driving.
Mansfield 103.2’s motoring correspondent Matt Edwards said: We all know its wrong, we all
know that if we have an accident with this particular device in your hand, then you’re in trouble.”
“However sometimes, when you run a busy life, then sometimes people need answers. Unfortunatley, it’s a real sorry state of the way in which our world has changed nowadays.”
If caught, Drivers can get an automatic fixed penalty notice, three penalty points and £100 fine. The case could also be taken to court, where the maximum fine is £1,000 and licence disqualification.
Department for Transport figures show that a driver impaired or distracted by their phone was a contributory factor in 492 accidents in Britain in 2014 - 21 of which were fatal and 84 classed as serious.
