Multi-Million Pound Stockwell Gate Project Progresses

24th March 2021
News, Mansfield

Stockwell Gate North surface car park in Mansfield closed permanently today to enable a £12m scheme to redevelop the former bus station site to progress.

The Mansfield District Council car park is to be transformed into a 100-bed hotel and three restaurants in the prestigious Stockwell Gateway scheme led by local property developer ARBA Property Group.

Cllr Stuart Richardson, Portfolio Holder for Regeneration and Growth, said: "The closure of the car park is a sign that this important redevelopment of a key gateway site into the town centre is well on the way.

"Although it does mean losing a few car park spaces, Mansfield is fortunate in having a good supply of car parks and it will lead to a massive regeneration of this site.

"This will mean a boost for jobs and the local economy by encouraging more people to spend more time and more money in the town centre.

"All of this aligns to the council’s long-term strategy around Growth, Aspiration, Wellbeing and Place.”

The Stockwell Gateway development in Mansfield, has three major brands in line to occupy spaces: Taco Bell, Tim Hortons, and Domino’s Pizza

Taco Bell, the world-famous Mexican-inspired restaurant brand, will bring 30 jobs to the town centre, while Tim Hortons, a Canadian brand, which has been expanding across the UK since 2017, specialises in premium coffee, freshly baked goods, sandwiches, wraps, and breakfast snacks. Domino's Pizza will relocate from across the road to a new purpose-built building.

The plans centre on a new six-storey, nationally-branded, 100-bedroom hotel with breakfast lounge, car parking spaces, direct pedestrian access to the adjacent Walkden Street car park, and revamped pedestrian links to the Four Seasons Shopping Centre.

People are advised to check the council website at www.mansfield.gov.uk/parking to find alternative places to park. The nearby Walkden Street multi storey car park is also currently closed while new exterior cladding is installed.
