Manx Missile In Mansfield?
Tour de France legend Mark Cavendish could be lining up to start Stage four of the Tour of Britain in Mansfield in eight days time if he can overcome an injury.
Nottinghamshire will be the focus for millions on Wednesday 6 September - as cycling fans will be glued to every moment of the OVO Energy Tour of Britain.
Cavendish, 'The Manx Missile' was forced to pull out of the Tour de France earlier this summer following a horror crash left him with a broken shoulder, but he is hoping to be fit enough to ride in the Tour of Britain that starts on Sunday.
Amongst the other star names who have already been confirmed are recently crowned European Champion Alexander Kristoff, World Time Trial Champion Tony Martin and Team Sky’s Michal Kwiatkowski, plus multiple British Time Trial Champion Alex Dowsett and Wales' Geraint Thomas.
Cavendish has won 30 stages on the Tour de France which puts him second on the all-time list behind behind legendary Belgian rider Eddy Merckx.
Thousands of people are expected to line the streets of North Nottinghamshire next Wednesday to cheer on all the riders, with perhaps an extra loud cheer for Cavendish who has been one of the leading lights in British Cycling for the past decade.
