Mansfield tackles violence against women
An end to violence to against women and girls is the aim of the White Ribbon Campaign, which was being supported in Mansfield last week.
As part of the campaign, Mansfield District Council are encouraging residents to donate shoeboxes full of daily essentials for women to use when living in a refuge. Christy Conroy, from Nottinghamshire Women's Aid, said “there's always high demand for our services, but this can be a positive sign, because it shows that people feel able to come forward and report the crime. People can suffer in silence for too long.”
Ms. Conroy said that she also welcomed donations of presents for children who are spending Christmas in a refuge. “Christmas is a very distressing time to be in a refuge, and, even though they are safe spaces, the children can struggle to adapt. So to have something nice to open on Christmas morning is a real treat.”
