Local Artist Charts Mental Health Battle
The health and wellbeing festival at Mansfield Museum has given one local artist the chance to exhibit her work, which she says has helped her to cope with her mental health issues.
Julie Winters' work focuses on the local area, and she says it all began when she was admitted to the Kings Mill Hospital's Mental Health Unit. “In 2015 I was poorly, and had a 9-week stay in Millbrook. The staff there noticed I kept going in the art room, and I've just been inspired to carry on ever since. The pictures show my journey to get better, and the more I drew [in Millbrook], the better I felt.”
Julie is now planning to embark on a project to draw all the public houses across Mansfield, which she is planning to exhibit at the Museum next year. Julie's current work is on display at the Museum as part of the Health and Wellbeing Festival, which runs until Saturday 8th April.
