LISTEN AGAIN | News In Focus SE01EP46 Family Issues
You can now listen again to this weeks News In Focus, which takes a look at a range of family issues including the amount of time parents spend with children under the age of five, kinship care and what youngsters think about the amount of time they play outside.
Looking at new research into a number of family issues, Craig Priest speaks to a range of guests to find out more about issues which impact on family life in the modern day, including research which has found only 7% of parents in Mansfield – have installed parental controls on devices to protect youngsters heading online.
John Malloy from iKydz-UK believes there is a common misconception in parents, that installing anti-virus software is enough. He said “Children’s internet safety is specifically what that child is doing online, how long they’re spending online and who they’re speaking too online – that’s not antivirus.”
“Antivirus is a third party threat which could infect your device – what parents need to understand is it’s a different market, it’s about controlling and understand what your children are doing online and stopping them being online all the time.”
Also in this week’s program, Lord Professor Robert Winston and childs-play expert Pauline Kent reveal that our areas youngsters actually think its parents being over protective which prevents them from spending more time outdoors, whilst we’ll have a detailed look at Kinship Care, as it’s revealed that in times of trouble – maternal parents are likely to turn to family members rather than the foster care system, in a bid to rebuild their family home.
There's also a report into a new scheme launched in Ladybrook, which looks to prevent social isolation for the elder generation.
