Lammas Ice Rink Set To Reopen To Public On January 17th

Lammas Ice Rink Set To Reopen To Public On January 17th

he popular ice rink at Lammas Leisure Centre is set to reopen following a major refurbishment.

The rink had been due to reopen on Saturday, January 8 but equipment delivery delays and issues arising from Covid-19 meant work was unable to be completed by that date.

In addition, the Open Weekend, which had been scheduled to take place at Lammas Leisure Centre and Hucknall Leisure Centre this weekend, has been moved to Saturday and Sunday, January 22-23.

This will allow those who head to Lammas to take to the ice and, across both centres, will showcase the vast array of upgrades that have been implemented.

Both sites are run by Everyone Active on behalf of Ashfield District Council.

New kickboards and upstands have been added to the rink at Lammas, along with new flooring throughout and a new ice refrigeration plant.

New seating for spectators has been installed, while skaters are able to secure refreshments directly from the rink, with a new serving hatch allowing access to the café.

Everyone Active’s contract manager, Lorenzo Clark, said: “It will be great to see people from across the community enjoying the ice rink again soon.  “The variety of upgrades have brought this area right up to date and have given it a new lease of life.

“We know how popular the ice rink is with the public and are really proud to offer them such a top-class facility.”

The Open Weekend will give Ashfield residents the chance to see first-hand the state-of-the-art facilities at both centres.

Among the facilities to be showcased will be Lammas’s new TAGactive Arena, which launched on Bank Holiday Monday, January 3.

The innovative activity is the first TAGactive to be unveiled at any of Everyone Active’s 200 sites across the country.

TAGactive is a game for all ages and takes place in an obstacle course arena split into zones, each of which contain a large number of illuminated TAGs.

Part of an overall £20million investment in facilities in Ashfield, it sits alongside another exciting new feature for the centre, the soft play, in the former sports hall.

Among the other recently-added features are a 150-station fitness suite, featuring top-of-the-range equipment.

There is a futuristic new group cycling studio and the café and reception have been refurbished.  Hucknall has also undergone a raft of improvements, headed up by a spectacular new 120-station gym.

A new earth studio focuses on holistic activities such as Pilates, yoga and barre, in addition to a new indoor cycling studio and new main studio.  Front of house has been refurbished and a new wellbeing hub is in place for community groups to use.

New wet change facilities are under way and plans for a second swimming pool have been submitted.  These investments come on top of the new Kirkby Leisure Centre which is due to open in June.

Lorenzo Clark said: “The Open Weekend will allow people to see the fantastic work that has gone in at Lammas and Hucknall and to experience the facilities for themselves.

“Both centres have been hugely improved and there is more to come in 2022, including the amazing new teaching pool at Hucknall and the launch of a superb new site, Kirkby Leisure Centre.”

Cllr Rachel Madden, cabinet Member for Leisure, Health and Wellbeing, said: “Millions of pounds have been invested at Lammas and Hucknall leisure centres, with more still to come.

They feature some of the area’s best fitness and leisure facilities, with something for all ages and abilities.

“I encourage residents to come along to the Open Weekend and see for themselves what’s on offer. Whilst other areas are seeing a decline in leisure facilities, Ashfield District Council is committed to investing in our leisure centres and sports facilities, and knows what an important part they play in residents’ health and wellbeing.”
