I’ve been feeding my bees this week
I’ve been feeding my bees this week. Getting them ready for winter. Actually, the idea is that you make sure that they have plenty of stores for when they start to become active early next year. So you feed them sugar and water to supplement the honey that they have produced.
When the weather gets slightly warmer in the spring they’ll start to build up the colony for next year and if, as sometimes happens, we get a mild spell followed by another cold snap, they’ll have plenty of food to live on until the first honey flow.
Feeding the bees, seeing posters advertising Goose Fair and realising that the shops are getting ready for Christmas, all leads to a feeling that summer has gone again and winter is approaching. So let’s make the most of the last sunny days, because we shall soon be switching on the central heating.
It’s really too soon to be talking about Christmas, but it’s been pointed out to me that Christmas Day falls on a Sunday this year. So it won’t be long before I’ll need to start dusting off the 50s & 60s Christmas treats for a Jukebox Giants Christmas Special. I say ‘need’ but the truth is that I love that material so I always start planning early. It’s a joy to hear the songs.
Meanwhile the bees need my attention ….. and maybe I’ll dig out Nut Rocker to put in the show very soon. It is of course by B Bumble and the Stingers!
