'Inadequate' School To Turn Into Academy

Pupils at The Green Infant School are set to benefit from a new action plan to improve the quality of teaching, the school’s acting head teacher has assured parents.

Phillippa Whitton has written to all parents to notify them of them of the school’s latest Ofsted inspection report and the determination of the school’s leadership team to make rapid improvements over the coming months.

During their visit to the school in February, inspectors noted that the acting head teacher had “wasted no time” since her appointment in identifying areas for improvement and addressing weaknesses in teaching.

They also remarked that pupils felt safe at school and that safeguarding was effective.

But inspectors were concerned that since their previous inspection in 2015, the good teaching seen at the school then had not been sustained.

The school’s overall effectiveness was graded as inadequate in their report, which is published today, placing the school in a category of concern.

As a result of the inspection outcome the school will begin the process of converting to an academy.

Phillippa Whitton said: “We understand the inevitable disappointment that everyone connected with the school will feel about the outcome of the inspection.

“However, the inspectors have noted our determination to make improvements to the quality of teaching. We are working closely with Derbyshire County Council’s Education Improvement Service to develop an action plan which we look forward to sharing with parents to explain how we intend to provide a better learning experience for our children.

“I very much believe that we have turned a corner since the beginning of the year and I hope we will begin to see the positive impact of the changes we will be making very soon.

“I am grateful for the support I have had thus far since from parents and the school’s governing body since taking up the post of acting head teacher, and look forward to working alongside you all over the coming months.”
