Historic Hucknall

5th October 2018
News

At Cabinet today it was agreed that a six week public consultation will be carried regarding a proposed conservation area for Hucknall town centre.

Rich in history, Hucknall has many buildings of architectural interest that give the town its district character. The layout of the town still reflects its ancient origins with the medieval St Mary Magdalene church as its focus. Due to the mainly Victorian and Edwardian architecture of the town centre the Council considers it has sufficient architectural and historic interest for it to be a designated conservation area.

Cllr John Willmott, Cabinet member and ward councillor for Hucknall North says “Designation as a conservation area would mean that additional planning controls would be in place on new works, but it is not just about restrictions, it would ensure that the best of Hucknall’s heritage is kept for future generations. The Byron Cinema and Fothergill building are both included within the proposed conservation area, two buildings I know Hucknall residents want to see remain. I encourage all Hucknall residents to have their say during the consultation.”

The public consultation will run for six weeks.
