Help Families Eat During The Holidays - Schools Out For Summer
6,000 children across our area will go hungry once they’ve broken up from school this summer as parents struggle to put food on the table.
They will miss out on the free school meals that they get during term times.
A group of people from this region have got together to help provide food for those 6,000 youngsters living below the poverty line in Mansfield. The scheme is called School’s Out For Summer.
Two hubs will be open, one at the Focus Point on Vale Road in Mansfield Woodhouse and the other at the Bilborough Road Centre off Sandy Lane in Mansfield. They’ll be open Tuesday’s between 12 and 3. These will both offer aid to families who need it during the six-week holidays.
Martin Lee is a Solicitor in the town, “A group of local volunteers want to make a difference and we’re doing that by establishing two hubs, where school children can come, be fed and also get food vouchers that they can spend in local supermarkets.”
He went on to talk about the importance of the project, “This is a much required need, those of us in the community are trying to address. The schools that we have spoken to, have identified the families who are in real need and they will be referred to us.”
Demand for emergency aid over the holidays soared by a fifth last year compare with 12 months previous.
It’s about making a difference in the our area and as the only truly local radio station, Mansfield 103.2 are fully backing the initiative and will bring you more information when we have it.
If you want to donate food (tins or non perishable items) or cash you can either visit those locations on those days or call the Schools Out For Summer hotline which is 07501737326.
John B Tannen will be out and about at different locations in the Fix Auto Street Crusader on Mondays and Fridays from August 2nd. Stay listening to find out where he’s going to be.
Schools Out For Summer will be officially launched at The Focus Centre on Vale Road on July 30th between 12 and 3 and Mansfield 103.2 will be there too.
