Green fingers and giraffes
Green fingers and giraffes – only on the Mansfield Marketplace...
Over the last nine months, I've been lucky enough to see Mansfield as I never had before. From working as a binman for a day, to testing out a hot tub in the middle of a busy showroom, there's barely been a dull moment. But seeing a 7ft tall giraffe tagging along with a marching band may just have topped the lot for sheer bizarreness. The excellent St Edmund's Drum and Bugle Corps were soundtracking the Garden and Craft Festival in Mansfield Marketplace, and a large mascot from an, erm, well-known toy store joined in the fun. The band didn't give him an instrument, which was probably wise.
Hundreds of people graced the marquees on the Marketplace for the two day festival, including a world record holder. Mansfield Woodhouse's Joe Atherton was showing off his onions, after successfully growing the worlds longest carrot a few years ago – coming in at a whopping 19 feet! I'd like to see the pan that's big enough to cook that in, though.
