Going Up?

29th January 2018

Once again Mansfield Town left it until the 94th minute to pick up a vital three points in League 2.

The Stags came back from 1-0 down at Morecambe to win 2-1 thanks to Mal 'Jimmy Spencer' Benning's late winner.

The victory put The Stags in the automatic promotion spots, just one point behind rivals Notts County. Danny Rose also added to his tally with the equaliser.

Going up?

Nottingham Forest were knocked out of the FA Cup after a 2-1 loss to Hull. The Reds were two down before half-time, a late Apostolos Vellios goal gave them hope but it wasn't enough.

Focus on the league?

Notts County are in the hat for the fifth round of the FA Cup however. They held Premier League Swansea to a 1-1 draw.

Jon Stead scored for the sixth game in a row to level the game in the second half after Luciano Narsingh put the Welsh side ahead. The draw takes place later tonight and the Magpies are ball number four.

Giant killing?

Another Saturday, another win for AFC Mansfield. They won 3-0 away at Handsworth Parramore, who came into the match in second, to extend their lead at the top of NCEL Premier Division to a massive 17 points. Connor Smythe continued his good form bagging a brace for the Bulls.

Rainworth Miners Welfare were thumped 4-0 at Pontefract and Clipstone were unable to repeat their heroics that saw them pick up their first point of the season last week, going down by the same score line at Pickering.

Next season?

In Division One, Shirebrook Town won a belter at Langwith Road beating Yorkshire Amateur (the side above the in the league) 3-2. Jordan Claxton got the winner with five minutes to go. They move up to fifth in the table with the victory.

Late promotion run?

It was a miserable weekend for both Ollerton Town and FC Bolsover however as they lost 1-0 and 4-0.

Next weekend?

Teversal won the battle of the top two in the East Midlands Counties Premier beating Anstey Nomads 3-1. That makes the gap between the two sides now seven points.

Tevie's gap at the top is four points though as Selston beat Holwell Sports 2-0 to keep up the pace in what promises to be a fantastic run in to the end of the season.

Party crashers?

Plenty of questions were answered this weekend but that only leaves many more without answers as we hurtle into February.
