Flowerpot Fun To Return To Palterton
Flowerpot Fun To Return To Palterton
Palterton is set to come alive to some weird and wonderful characters again as they are set to stage the third Palterton Flower Pot Festival.
Local residents, schoolchildren and groups are being encouraged to create their own fantastic flowerpot sculptures that can be displayed at home, in gardens, the school, streets and countryside surrounding the hamlet.
The festival will run for three weeks from the 23 May to 12 June and will also coincide with the village’s Garden Party to celebrate the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee on Sunday 5 June.
Organised by Bolsover District Council, along with Palterton Residents Association, it is hoped that the zany celebration will bring out the creative side in young and old and also encourage people to explore their neighbourhood to see the spectacular displays.
Bolsover District Council’s Cabinet Member for Leisure, Councillor David Downes said, “Staging events like this form part of our commitment in helping parish council’s and local community groups.
They help bring the local community together and provide visitors coming to the area a chance to explore parts of Bolsover District that they may not have known existed. There are some amazing characters that will be on display and I would urge people to get involved or go and have a look while the festival is on.”
A trail handbook will be available to download from www.bolsover.gov.ukwith details of where to find the creations nearer the festival date.
Jo Taylor from Palterton Residents Association said, “We are encouraging people to join in and get even more creative this year. We get a lot of people walking through the village and it’s interesting for people to have a look at. While ever our local community wants to do it, we will carry on with it as it helps keep that community spirit alive.”
