Fans urged to turn up for massive Stags game this weekend

24th April 2017

Mansfield Town chairman John Radford and chief executive Carolyn Radford have urged fans to pack the One Call Stadium on Saturday for their vital match at home to Portsmouth.

The Stags find themselves just a point outside of the League Two play-off zone with two games left to play after Saturday's excellent 1-0 win at Stevenage, Danny Rose with his ninth goal of the season just before half-time.

A victory over the South coast side, who are already promoted but still have an outside chance of being crowned champions, would put Steve Evans' side in an excellent position going into the final game at Crawley Town a week later.

John Radford told Mansfield 103.2 at a press conference on Monday that there is a real buzz of anticipation around the club as it looks to get into League One for next season.

He said: "Every game is exciting at the moment, each feels like the biggest game of the season.

"We've got a big game on Saturday, [Portsmouth] have packed out the away end and I'm hoping the people of Nottinghamshire come and give us a bit of support and help us get through a game at a time."

When asked about the possibility of promotion, Carolyn Radford added: "I truly believe that we can do it and I really want everyone to get behind us and come to the game. It's so important - the players, Steve, everybody, we all need your support.

"Portsmouth are very vocal and we're hoping we can match their voices and be really triumphant."

Portsmouth sold their allocation of 1,500 tickets for the game within ninety minutes of them going on sale last week so a bumper crowd is expected for the final home league match of the season.

The club are hoping to get their highest attendance of the campaign, beating 5,763 for the match against neighbours Notts County in October that included a similar away following.
