Working at Mansfield 103.2 can sometimes mean you're the man on the scene when a major story breaks. From last year's junior doctors' strikes to the unveiling of Steve Evans as Stags manager, I've been in the right place at the right time on a few occasions over the past year or so. But being present as a ewe gave birth was something else entirely...
When we pitched up at White Post Farm a few days ago, we knew there was a chance we'd see a new life being brought into the world – but, with just 3 ewes yet to give birth, it was quite unlikely. But then the telltale signs started to appear, and the farm's staff swung into action.
We were all hoping for a fairly straightforward birth, and I was told things usually took around half an hour. But it seemed things weren't quite going to plan. And so I spent most of the last hour-and-a-half of my show wondering if the ewe and her newborn would pull through. Then finally, with just five minutes of the show to go, Anthony from the farm rushed over to me to announce a lamb had been born, safe and well. The great work of all the team at the farm really shone through - and the new arrival certainly knew how to time his entrance!
We've passed on your suggestions for the name of the new lamb to the farm, so hopefully we should have some news from them about that very soon!
