Drop In Temperature May See Gritters Back On The Road This Weekend

Early weather forecasts for the weekend suggest we may see the counties gritting team hitting the roads this weekend, with temperatures predicted to be around 0 degrees on Saturday night.

The prediction means that, unless there is a major change in temperatures, the 31 lorry strong team, will be spreading salt to keep the counties roads safe.

Nottinghamshire County Council work in partnership with Via East Midlands to maintain the roads across winter time, and team manager Garry Chadburn said “We will review the weather forecast tomorrow. Unless it shows that temperatures will rise, it looks like our gritting teams will be out on Saturday evening.”

“The Met Office advises that on Saturday evening, the road temperature between midnight and 2am are set to drop towards 0 degrees C, the temperature threshold at which there is the risk of frost and ice forming on the road surface.”
