Drivers To Benefit From Maintenance Work In East Mids
Drivers will benefit from a new road surface and improved drainage which will prevent flooding on a key East Midlands road as part of a package of essential maintenance work on the A1, A52 and A46.
In order to carry out these improvements, in addition to overnight closures during the week, the east and westbound carriageways along a section of the A52 will be closed for the next two weekends.
Highways England project manager, Simon Wagstaff, said:
“This is essential maintenance work and I’d like to thank motorists for their patience. We’re working along the routes in a phased way which will prevent the need for larger work in the future and will minimise disruption to drivers.
“To carry out the resurfacing works between Bottesford and Barrowby we need to fully close the carriageway over those weekends in order to maintain a safe environment for our workers and customers.
“To maximise efficiency we will also be doing other maintenance work.
“We are carrying out drainage work near the Bingham section overnight at other times during the week using temporary traffic signals.”
The first weekend closure is from Friday 16 February from 8pm until Monday the 19 February at 6am. The second is from Friday 23 February at 8pm until Monday 26 February at 6am.
During the closures there will be a fully signed diversion route in place through the A46 and A1.
Eastbound traffic will be diverted at Saxondale north via the A46 to Newark and then south via the A1 to Barrowby. Westbound traffic is diverted at Barrowby north via the A1 to Newark and then south via the A46 to Saxondale.
Access to properties that can only be reached from the A52 will be maintained.
The maintenance work on the A52 is due to be completed in March subject to suitable weather conditions or unforeseen circumstances.
Similar improvement work was completed along a section of the A1 last month.
Work is currently being carried out on the MAR Route, the £5million project is set to be completed at the end of next month.
