Cuckney crowned 2016 Notts Premier League champions
Cuckney were crowned the 2016 Notts Premier League champions on Saturday whilst Welbeck finished in one of the two relegation positions.
Once again the rain stepped in and had a major effect on the final round of matches with just two games seeing any action.
Kimberley v Caythorpe, Plumtree v Welbeck, Radcliffe v Mansfield and WI Cavaliers v Notts Academy were all called off without a ball being bowled.
The cancellation of the fixture at Plumtree meant that Cuckney could not be caught, leaving the Bears as the 2016 title winners, and left both Hucknall and Ordsall Bridon with potential escape routes as both sides were involved in the matches where play was possible.
Hucknall travelled to Cuckney, needing to collect two points more than Welbeck and just to outscore Ordsall. In a match reduced to 35 overs each, Hucknall were put in to bat and compiled 162 for 6. Jake Libby leading the way with 60 and Richard Greatorex adding a run-a-ball 34. James Hawley grabbed 3 for 29 to peg them back. Cuckney had made it to 107 for 3 from 24 when play had to be abandoned. Luke Thomas top scored with 33. The 11 points gained by Hucknall were enough to lift them out of the relegation places.
Ordsall Bridon needed to outscore both Hucknall and Welbeck if they were to survive the drop and, again after being put in to bat compiled 160 for 6 from the 35 overs they had. Paul Van Den Heuvel (47*) and Liam Andrews (47) driving them to that score after they fell to 47 for 3. Muhammed Usman led the bowling taking 5 for 42. Clifton didn’t hang around in reply, reaching the target with 11 overs to spare. Gregor Croudis hit 62 from 62 balls at the top of the order, David Farnsworth’s 39 came off just 33, as the Villagers secured an 8 wicket win and doomed Bridon to the drop.
