Council To Remain Open Despite Major Temporary Measures

19th March 2020
News, Ashfield

In line with current advice from the Government, the Council remains open and is focussed on continuing to provide their critical services for residents.

Ashfield District Council have taken the decision to limit face-to-face contact to reduce the risk of the coronavirus among the local community and employees. This means they are closing their offices to the public and asking residents to contact them through other channels.

Watnall Road, Hucknall is now closed to the public as of Thursday 19th March until further notice.

Urban Road, Kirkby & Brook Street, Sutton will be closed to the public from Monday 23rd March until further notice.

Northern Depot will be closed to the public from Monday 23 rd March until further notice. Access will be allowed for Taxi MOTs.

From Monday there will be an emergency number on display for those that present as homeless or seeking housing advice.

The DWP are continuing to offer a face to face service for now at Urban Road and access to the building will remain for their customers.

From Monday 23rd March, the Council will be organising office-based employees to work from home on a rota basis, rather than coming into the office. They have also advised employees to cancel all non-essential meetings and training or make alternative arrangements such as tele-conferencing wherever possible.

Employees delivering public facing services such as housing repairs, street cleansing and waste collection will continue as normal but this is being reviewed regularly and may change in line with the latest Government advice.

They will be cancelling all Council events on a 12-week rolling basis with immediate effect.

Councillor Jason Zadrozny, Leader of Ashfield District Council, said: “I would like to thank everyone for their patience at this time. Although this is a difficult decision, it is one that must be made in order to continue our critical services for our residents."

“In these unprecedented times, the health, safety and wellbeing of our community and employees is of paramount importance."

“We ask residents to keep calm, and follow the advice and guidance issued by the Government. We have received hundreds of calls from residents asking how they
can help, it is fantastic to see such community spirit. At this time we ask that you check on vulnerable or elderly neighbours and if you wish to volunteer watch out for
national appeals on how you can best do that.

“This is a constantly changing situation and we will provide updates as often as we can. We ask that residents are patient with us at this time as we continue to deliver
our core business including empting your bins and delivering housing repairs.”
