Chatsworth Ward Is Saved
The Chatsworth Ward at Mansfield Community Hospital is staying open.
After seven months of campaigning by staff, patients and ex-patients, their families and supporters, Sherwood Forest Hospitals NHS Trust together with Mansfield and Ashfield CCG met with members of the campaign on Monday 12th February.
The need for the expert service it provides to rehabilitate patients, particularly those with long-term neurological conditions, has been recognised. The ward is staying open and will continue to provide this vital care.
In addition an outreach service to help patients in the community is planned. At present there is no community-based rehabilitation for neurological patients in the area.
"This is a fantastic victory for all those who came to meetings, marched and signed petitions supporting Chatsworth Ward," said Jon Dale, Unite Nottinghamshire Health Service branch secretary on behalf of the campaign. "It shows that when we fight back, we can defeat cuts and the threat of privatisation. Our fight will continue to stop these threats throughout Nottinghamshire and this victory will inspire pthers to fight back to save our NHS."
