Campaigning Councillor Wins Broadband Fight
10th October 2017
Residents in Huthwaite, Nottinghamshire are celebrating after campaigning councillor Tom Hollis finally won his fight for Superfast Broadband. 174 premises on the Mill Lane Estate will see significantly improved internet speeds after suffering from 5 years of poor internet. The system is now live and residents will be able to upgrade their internet with their preferred internet supplier.
Tom's campaign was even featured on BBC East Midlands Today and got coverage in the local media.
Councillor Hollis, who was contacted by numerous residents about the issue said, "It's been a long process but I'm glad we have been able to sort this. Superfast Broadband has become increasingly vital for residents. Broadband is needed to support an increasing number of devices in the home. Residents on the Mill Lane Estate have suffered enough. This just goes to show that by working together we can deliver positive results that benefit so many residents in Huthwaite. I would like to thank Nottingamshire County Council for undertaking the work.
"Broadband is as important as electricity, water and gas supplies. It seems ridiculous in this day and age that developers are not forced to provide this provision via the planning process. The failure by Ashfield District Council to force the developer to provide broadband has cost taxpayers. It was the County Council who picked up the tab for this. I recently spoke on this exact issue at a Full Meeting of Nottinghamshire County Council. I called for Ashfield District Council to insist all new homes are 'future proofed' with broadband access. This includes ANY housing allocation built in the Local Housing Plan."
Residents who live in these postcodes can now upgrade their internet to Superfast Broadband:
