Bumping Into A Legend
Bumping into a legend
I bumped into Vince Eager at the weekend. We were both helping a mutual friend to celebrate his 70th birthday. I’m pleased to say that Vince was persuaded to sing a few songs with the band (Tristram Shandy, recently reformed) and I can report that he is still in great voice.
We had a chat before he went on stage and he told me a couple of interesting things. First that some previously unreleased Gene Vincent tracks have been unearthed and may soon be available, and secondly that plans are in train to put together a Rock ‘n’ Roll touring show featuring a number of late 50s rockin’ legends.
If all goes well we can expect to see a bill including Charlie Gracie (Butterfly, Fabulous, Wandering Eyes), Terry Dene (A White Sport Coat, Start Movin’, Stairway of Love) and Vince himself. I’ll keep you posted and when I get more information I’ll tell you on “Jukebox Giants”, which you can hear on Sundays 5pm – 7pm.
I also have some great news about the show. From Wednesday January 25th there will be two editions of the programme each week. As well as the Sunday show, when I play you songs and tunes from the 50s and 60s there will be a midweek version on Wednesdays 6pm – 8pm, when I will feature records from the 60s & 70s.
I hope you will join me for both programmes, “Jukebox Giants” and “Midweek Jukebox Giants” on Mansfield 103.2 for two weekly bursts of nostalgia.
