Brunts Students Raise Almost £7,000 And Support NHS
Over the last 12 months students from upper years in Mansfield based secondary school - The Brunts Academy have been fundraising for a once in a lifetime trip to Nepal this July. The trip would have given the students the opportunity to experience Nepal’s culture and adventures, but more importantly to undertake project work to support Nepal’s local communities.
The students have enjoyed a variety of fundraising activities which included an expedition in the Peak District (picture shown above), bake sales and organising a Spring festival, all with the intention of raising money to help local communities through their voluntary work when they reached Nepal.
The COVID-19 pandemic has put a stop to the students Nepal Expedition! Obviously, all students are incredibly disappointing but they didn’t want their fundraising efforts to be in vain. So in a bid to still make a positive change with the valuable fundraising money, the students voted on how they would like to donate the money and they reached a unanimous decision to split the funds 50:50 between The Sherwood Forest NHS Trust and Community Action Nepal.
Michael Lucas – Principal at the Brunts Academy shared his thoughts on the student’s action: “We are so proud of our students who have helped to raise the incredible amount of money of £6,800 and we are pleased to be donating £3,400 to each of these very worthy charities. We will of course look forward to starting the planning for a future expedition once it is safe to do so. This has been a real team effort where our students and staff have lived and breathed our values so a huge well done to all involved”.
Claire-Marie Cuthbert, CEO of The Evolve Trust comments on the student’s action “We are so proud of our amazing Brunts students and the ambition they have demonstrated to achieve their goal, additionally their resilience throughout this very difficult time resulting in their trip not being able to go ahead”.
