AUDIO NEWS IN FOCUS EXTRA | Avoid nasty side effects by reading the information leaflets
Whilst taking medication is designed to make you better, tablets do carry the risk of side effects – everything from muscle pain and headaches to more serious issues, but how many people actually know what the side effects are of the tablets they’re taking?
Over 52,000 people in our region take prescription medication but over half admit to never reading the Patient Information Leaflet contained inside the box of tablets and pills. The PIL contains all the vital information about what side effects are possible, and health experts are encouraging more people to take the time to read the information.
In the audio below, Craig Priest chats to Dr Sarah Brewer who has written over 60 health advice books, covering all aspects of health – Craig asks Sarah what are the common reasons why people don’t read the information leaflets and if GPs should do more to ensure their patients do.
