21 Year Old Jailed For Eight Years For Manslaughter Of Partner
A 21-year-old woman who stabbed her partner during a party has been jailed for eight years for manslaughter.
Christopher Pearson had invited friends back to their Hucknall home in February.
An argument broke out after Demi Harris had complained about the noise, shortly before being pulled into the hot tub fully clothed.
She later stabbed him in the stomach with a knife he kept at the side of the bed.
Police were called by the ambulance service at around 5.30am on 18 February reporting that 39-year-old Mr Pearson had been stabbed. He was taken to the Queen’s Medical Centre where he later died.
Harris was stopped by officers as she was making her way to her mum’s house soon after the ambulance arrived.
Harris, of Strathmore Close, Hucknall, was found not guilty of murder following a 16-day trial last month but the jury returned a guilty verdict of manslaughter. She was bailed and appeared at Nottingham Crown Court today (Thursday 6 December) for sentencing.
Mr Pearson's family made a joint statement after the sentencing, saying: "As a family, we are still struggling to come to terms with the tragic events that took Chris’s life in February, as are his friends.
"He had many plans for the future but this has all now been taken away from him.
"We would like to thank our family and friends for their support during this difficult time and also the police and Crown Prosecution Service for all of their help and support leading up to and during the trial."
Detective Inspector Becky Hodgman was the senior investigating officer for the investigation and officer in the case was Detective Constable Nicola Faulkner.
DC Faulkner said: "Mr Pearson's family have been devastated by his death and nothing will make up for his loss. But I hope the conviction and sentencing of Harris will at least help them start the healing process.
"It is another sad reminder that knives ruin lives of not just the victims but the offenders too, and everyone connected to each of them."
